A slew of new acts have been added to the Hideout Lineup 2012 including: SBTRKT, Seth Troxler, High Contrast and Chase & Status. The festival takes place between June 29th and July 1st on the beautiful island of Pag in Croatia with the likes of Skrillex, Jamie Jones, Annie Mac and Ricardo Villalobos already announced. Other names recently added to the list are: Benga, Loco Dice, Tiga, Seth Troxler, Redlight, ShyFX, Aeroplane, Simian Mobile Disco and Art Department.
Bangface Weekender have revealed that Aphex Twin will be headlining this year’s event! The 5th annual Bangface festival, it will be taking place between September 14-16 at Trevelgue Holiday Park in Newquay, Cornwall and whilst no other acts have been announced yet, we’re already excited! Set in a beautiful green valley in Cornwall (and just minutes away from the beach) the festival has self-catering detached caravan accommodation as well as camping. It’s a new venue for the weekender and has promised an even more relaxed holiday vibe! There’s a huge warehouse style space and two other indoor rave spaces as well. Plus, don’t forget the pool party and beach party sessions!
Today Rockness festival 2012 have announced some exciting acts on their lineup as well as revealing an innovative new way to arrive at the festival in style! The Roxness Express will be a specially chartered train departing from London and picking up festivalgoers throughout the UK; it will stop in Birmingham, Derby, York and Newcastle before arriving in Inverness to get the party started! All those on board the Rockness Express will have priority access to the festival. So far acts announced have included: headline act Deadmau5, supported by Justice as well as up-and-coming talent like Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Azealia Banks. Other acts include the more mainstream sounds of Mumford & Sons, Biffy Clyro and Ed Sheeran.
Leftfield have announced they will be holding a show alongside Red Bull Studios London for the charity Warchild. Titled ‘Leftfield and Friends’ it will be taking place on April 21 this year at the Brixton Academy. With Leftfield headlining, other acts performing include Booka Shade, James Zabiela, Laurent Garnier and M.A.N.D.Y.
The music home of acts like Moby, Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp – Mute Records – has announced they plan to start a new label. Headed by Patrick O’Neil, the label’s A&R man, the label will be called ‘Liberation Technologies’ and focus on Mute’s electronic output. He has insisted that there will be a strong commitment to vinyl as well as innovative ways of releasing each work. The first release set from Liberation Technologies will be from King Felix, with his The Spring EP, out March 19th.
Zki & Dobre are a Dutch house music duo from Netherlands who also produce with the names The Goodmen and Chocolate Puma. The duo is made up of Gaston Steenkist (Dobre) and Rene ter Horst (DJ Zki). They have had multiple dance successes under various group names since the early 90s inc. As The Goodmen their most successful track was ‘Give It Up’, based on samba percussion and the repeating vocal line of the song title. It reached number 1 in the 1993 US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and made a fleeting appearance in the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. It was re-released in late 1993 and hit number 5 in the UK singles chart. Simply Red sampled ‘Give It Up’ in their number 1 hit ‘Fairground’ in 1995 and The Goodmen were credited. The Goodmen released and had success with a number of tracks such as: Tomba Vira, Jark Prongo, Fresh Tunes and Klatsch. 2001 was the year the duo started having success as Chocolate Puma in the US dance chart with ‘I Wanna Be U’ which also reached number 6 in the UK.
As if there weren’t enough reality TV shows to exhaust us, it seems Simon Cowell wants to get his claws into the electronic music scene next – announcing an X-Factor style TV show to find the next big DJ. Oh dear. We think it’s a pretty cringe worthy concept and dread to think what the show will be called, ‘The Decks Factor’ anyone? But production company Overbrook have confirmed that the news is true. In a recent statement Simon Cowell ‘DJ’s are the new rock stars, it feels the right time to make this show’. Benji B’s club night Deviation is back for 2012 and is set to be just as epic as last year. The Radio 1 selector resumes his residency at Shoreditch’s Concrete on Wed Feb 1st. He’ll be supported by up-and-coming soul-girl Tawaiah as well as the first lady of bass heavy house, Ikonika. Tawiah will be showcasing some of her new tunes as well as favourites from her EP ‘In Jody’s Bedroom’. Whilst Ikonika (boss of record label Hum and Buzz and producer in her own right) will be cutting up some of the finest dance floor tracks like only she can. Benji B himself will be holding down the rest of the night alongside MC Judah on the mic all night long.
The Field Day festival is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, and has just announced the next set of acts for their 2012 lineup. Modeselektor, Blawan and Koreless will all be performing as well as Hudson Mohawke and SBTRKT. For those who want to get away from big bass lines, there’ll be something for the indie crowd with acts like Mazzy Star, the Vaccines and Metronomy also playing. Statring June 2 at Victoria Park, Field Day embraces many forms of alternative music as a one of London’s hottest music events for those whose musical tastes stray way from the mainstream.
